Amid the rising number of swine flu cases in Dehradun, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital has strengthened its preparedness to tackle swine flu infections. The hospital management has reserved a 50-bed special ward for the treatment of suspected and infected swine flu patients. Five ICU beds have also been reserved for critically ill patients. Senior pulmonologist Dr. Jagdish Rawat has been appointed as the Nodal Officer for swine flu cases.
This information was provided by the hospital’s Chief Medical Superintendent, Dr. Anil Malik. He stated that the hospital management has issued special guidelines regarding the monitoring, testing, and treatment of suspected cases. Following the emergence of suspected and positive swine flu cases in Dehradun in recent days, the hospital has further strengthened its preparedness.
On Thursday, a delegation from the CMO’s office, led by ACMO Dr. Rana, visited Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital. During the visit, the hospital management briefed the delegation about swine flu cases, treatment arrangements, and the preparations made at the hospital.
Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital also has facilities for swine flu testing. The Central Molecular Research Laboratory, operating under Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences and Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, is one of the state’s leading certified centres for DNA/RNA-level testing. This is a major relief for patients, as they can provide samples for swine flu testing in Dehradun itself and receive their reports within 12 to 24 hours.
Dr. Iva Chandola, Director of the Central Molecular Research Laboratory, said that swine flu testing is being conducted with the help of advanced equipment and trained staff, with reports available within 12 to 24 hours. The high-tech laboratory has the capacity to test approximately 100 swine flu samples per day using its advanced testing machines.
She further stated that the availability of testing facilities locally eliminates the need for patients to wait for long periods for their reports. Once swine flu is confirmed, treatment can also be initiated promptly.
The Central Molecular Research Laboratory of the hospital has received permission to test swine flu samples in accordance with the guidelines and standards prescribed by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi. The laboratory has also received approval from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, and is NABL-accredited.
According to the hospital’s specialist doctors, timely identification, testing, and treatment of swine flu cases play a crucial role in preventing the patient’s condition from becoming serious. Keeping this in mind, the hospital has kept its beds, ICU facilities, and testing infrastructure fully prepared.
