In a remarkable effort to bridge the healthcare divide in the remote hilly areas of Uttarakhand, a
groundbreaking program titled "Empowering Rural and Remote Healthcare in Sub-Himalayan Region:
Enhancing Awareness of Cancer Screening and Early Diagnosis” was launched yesterday. The program
will be run by Oncology team of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital in collaboration with ECHO-India, and the
National Health Mission, Uttarakhand.
The goals of the program are to help rural medical officers learn more about cancer screening and early
diagnosis in a structured way. It also aims to encourage medical officers, community groups, and local
healthcare providers to work together. This teamwork will create a supportive environment for cancer
screening and early diagnosis in rural areas. Over 26 weeks, doctors taking part in the program will gain
the knowledge and skills they need to spot early signs of cancer, talk effectively with patients, and use
the right screening methods.
The Chairman of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Shri Mahant Devendra Dass Ji Maharaj, commended the
excellent work being carried out by the oncology team. He further emphasized his commitment to
improving healthcare in remote hilly areas. Together, they are on a mission to detect cancer early, save
lives, and enhance healthcare services.
Distinguished individuals who played integral roles in this significant endeavor comprised Mr. Gurdeep
Birla and Ms. Deepa Jha, representing ECHO India, along with Ms. Amandeep Kaur and Dr.Fareeduzaffar
from NHM, Uttarakhand. The dedicated oncology team at Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital included Dr.
Pankaj Garg, Dr. Ajeet Tiwari, Dr. Pallvi Kaul, Dr. Rahul Kumar, and Dr. Rachit Ahuja. Additionally, Dr. SVS
Deo, Head Cancer Surgery, AIIMS Delhi actively participated in the program.
